If you have questions about session planning, what to wear, image delivery, or how selection works, you’re in the right place. I’ve answered the most common questions here so you can book with confidence and know what to expect.

What do you photograph?

MattPhotos.ca focuses on people-focused photography:

  • Corporate headshots & personal branding

  • Portrait sessions (individual / couples / creative)

  • Family & milestone portraits

  • Select events (birthdays, engagements, weddings—depending on date and scope)

For commercial/industrial work, video production, and design, I keep that portfolio separate on my commercial website (linked from the Commercial menu item).

What’s your style?

I’m based in Edmonton, Alberta.
I can shoot:

  • In my home studio setup (clean backdrop + controlled lighting), or

  • On-location at your office, home, or venue (portable lighting setup)

Travel outside Edmonton is possible—details depend on the location and schedule.

What’s your photography style?

Clean, natural, and professional. My goal is to highlight personality, emotion, and detail—whether it’s a
corporate profile photo, a family portrait, or a business branding session. I’ll guide you through the process
so you feel comfortable, confident, and relaxed in front of the camera.

What should I wear?

In general, simple is best:

  • Solid colors photograph really well

  • Avoid busy patterns and tiny stripes

  • Choose outfits that match the purpose (corporate, casual, creative)

  • If you’re unsure, bring two options (one more formal, one more relaxed)

For headshots: clean neckline, well-fitted clothing, and minimal distractions usually wins.

Do you help with posing (even if I feel awkward)?

Yes—always.
Most people feel awkward at first. I’ll coach you through posture, angles, hands, and expressions so it looks natural and polished.

How long is a session?

It depends on what you’re booking, but most sessions fall into:

  • Short / mini sessions (quick and focused)

  • Standard sessions (more variety, more time to relax)

  • Extended sessions or events (more coverage, more moments)

If you tell me what you need the photos for (LinkedIn, website, family portraits, birthday coverage, etc.), I’ll recommend the right session length.

How does image selection work?

After the session, I remove obvious duplicates, test shots, and blinks—then I prepare your best images.

Depending on the session type, either:

  • I deliver a curated final gallery (so you don’t waste time sorting), or

  • You choose your favorites first from a proofing gallery, and I retouch the selected images

If you have a very specific look in mind, choosing favorites first is often a great option.

What editing/retouching is included?

My editing is natural and professional:

  • Color and lighting correction

  • Skin cleanup and minor distractions

  • Reducing shine / small blemishes

  • Cropping and finishing touches

I don’t do heavy “plastic” retouching unless you request it.

When will I receive my photos?

Turnaround depends on the session type and season:

  • Portraits / headshots are usually delivered within a few days to a couple of weeks

  • Events and larger sessions take longer due to volume and timeline

If you have a deadline (job application, announcement, birthday, etc.), tell me early—I’ll try to schedule editing accordingly.

How many photos will I receive?

Each session includes a set of edited images based on the package/session you book.
I focus on quality over quantity, but I also tend to shoot enough variety so you have strong options.

Additional edited images are usually available if you want more beyond what’s included.

Can you do team headshots or group photos for a business?

Yes. I can do:

  • Individual headshots for teams

  • A group/team photo

  • Optional “branding” photos (workspace, candid working shots, details for websites)

Team sessions can be done efficiently at your office with a portable setup.

How do booking and payments work?

To reserve a date/time, I typically require a retainer. The remaining balance is due before final delivery. Payment methods can be discussed at booking (e-transfer is common).

If you need flexibility, just ask—there are usually options.

What if I need to reschedule?

No problem—life happens.
If you need to reschedule, tell me as soon as possible so we can find a new date. (Retainers are generally non-refundable, but I’m reasonable and try to work with people.)

For outdoor sessions, weather is also a real factor—if conditions aren’t workable, we can adjust the plan.

Will you post my photos online?

I may share selected images on my website or social media as part of my portfolio—this is common in photography.

If you prefer privacy (or want only certain images kept private), just let me know. I always respect client comfort and boundaries.

How do you handle my personal information?

I only collect what’s needed to book and deliver your session (name, contact details, invoice/payment basics). I don’t sell or misuse client information, and your galleries are delivered through professional platforms.

I have a specific idea or reference photos, can I share them?

Yes! please do.
If you have inspiration screenshots, brand guidelines, or a mood/feel you like, send them over. It helps me match the style you want.
